Looking for any info of children of William Sutherland and Jean Cromarty who married 12/10/1839 Flotta, Orkney. My gx3 grandmother Ann Sutherland was born in 1844 and I am trying to trace her siblings if she had any.

Bit of wobbly with this one. The marriage date threw me. Can I assume you meant 10 October 1839? I cant find anything under your (N. American) date format.

On that assumption, I have found a William Sutherland (Son of William Sutherland and Ann Cromarty) born/christened 3 September 1846. However, this William died at the age of nine, on the 6th December 1855 in Flotta. Can't be 100% sure if these are the same Williams but you probably have more information regarding the family to confirm this. Bear in mind though, when you do more research, his mother's name appears to interchange between Jean and Jane. His death certificate should be searchable on GROS since it occured after the 1855 start of statute registration.

I am new here and found this by google search and thought i would be my 2 cents in. I think I am a descendant of William Sutherland and Jean Cromarty. BUT, the records that I had looked at showed the last name as Crowarty. But, I could have easily mispelled the last name.

My name is Jennifer (Robertson) Linn. My grandfather was John Sutherland Robertson, son of James Robertson and Mary Ann (Davidson) Robertson. Grandson of James Robertson and Jean/Jane Sutherland. Her parents were listed on a marriage record as being William Sutherland and Jean Cromarty/Crowarty.

I have been researching my Robertson line since I was 12. My grandfather passed away when I was 3. He was born November 22, 1895 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He died Jan 15, 1975 ( I had just turned 3). He emigrated to the US from Orkney, Scotland in January 1929 and in October 1930, his wife, Barbara Ann (Johnstone) Robertson and their 2 children came to America. After the 1930 US Census, I cannot locate the wife and children.

I am searching for any descendants of the children, or those of John S. Robertson's older brother, James William Robertson, born Dec 1892, Aberdeen, Scotland.

I don't know of any other information to add, but I would really like some help as to whether or not I have the right family line. My grandfather went back to Scotland in 1973-74 and my Uncle Jim went with him, but my uncle is not giving up any information at all. It's as though there is something that he won't tell us, regarding our family heritage.

I am proud of my scottish heritage and I would like to instill that into my son. Each year my parents go to the Scottish Festival in Quechee, VT or in Connecticuit. I belong to Clan Donnachaidh Society - New England.

I have had a stab at trying to locate your grandfather's children from his first marriage ( to Barbara Ann Johnston) - By the way, it is definitely JOHNSTON without an 'e' at the end!

John Douglas Davidson Robertson was born on 6 March 1918 at Towrie? House, Walls, Orkney.

John married Jean Munro Burnett on the 16 January 1943, at St Peter's Church, Stromness, Orkney.

At the time he was a 24 year old Sub Lieutenant with the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, living at Daisybank, Melsetter, Orkney. His bride, also 24, was a school teacher, also of Stromness.

I have searched also for his sister. I have found birth entry for her under Isobel Barbara Robertson. I will email you those details. I have been unable to find a marriage or death entry for her in Scotland. So, either she never came back to Scotland and has settled in US/Canada or England perhaps.

I hope this helps to open up an avenue for your research.

John George Linklater was born 28 February 1904. Mary Jean Simpson born 18 September 1911. They married 20 October 1936. He died 17 June 1977 and she died 20 July 1956 (day after my mother's 18th birthday). I know his parents were John Linklater and Harriet Lillie Robertson. John's parents were James Linklater and Georgina Stanger, but I am struggling to find anything further on their parents. Mary Jean's parents were John Simpson and Jean Taylor, but again, past the names of their parents I am struggling to find much - too many people with the same name etc! and I'm not very good at following the census info.
