Hi Neil,
Your site was given to me by one of your new guests, Di. I contacted her recently when I came across her searching for a Christina Sutherland while researching my family tree.
My G Grandmother is also Christina Sutherland but sadly a different one. ‘Mine’ was born around 1832 to 1835 in Caithness.
From her marriage certificate: Christina married William Robertson on 11 November 1867 at Blantyre. Christina’s profession: domestic servant, age: 32, usual residence: Blantyre parish, father: John Sutherland, mother: Ann Sutherland, maiden surname: Hall.
Christina & William appear in the English 1881 & 1901 census at Liverpool. (nothing found in 1891). From the age and birthplace of their sons it appears they left Scotland between 1869 & 1875.
Christina’s death is registered at Liverpool in Dec 1939 aged 107 (she made the local papers a couple of times as being Liverpool’s oldest inhabitant!). Hence the spread in dates when born.
I have been unable to find her, William Robertson, or their sons in any of the Scottish census (scotlandspeople).
I have read your reply to Di and will follow up on the advice you gave her. If it is not too much a presumption, I would be very grateful if, while you are researching Di’s relative, you would keep an eye open for ‘mine’ since their birth dates are only a few years apart.
Best regards
Chris
